Musical Theatre

Today’s Musical Theatre singers have to be more vocally versatile than ever before.

In addition to having traditional broadway and classically-influenced golden age repertoire under their belt, these performers need to be well-versed in a variety of contemporary-commercial singing styles. With each new musical that bursts onto the scene, singers are expected to incorporate more and more commercial stylisms into their singing—vintage and modern pop, rap, punk, indie rock, rhythm and blues, hip-hip, folk, gospel, and so many others. Not to mention having superhuman range! And while not every singer is going to sing in every style, all kinds of MT singers need to be ready to handle a variety of demands throughout their careers.

That’s why when I work with a Musical Theatre artist, my goal is to ensure that their voice is functioning with as much flexibility, strength, stamina, freedom, and authenticity as possible.

Sarah is an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre Voice at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, one of the nation’s top programs.

I took a few years off from theatre/singing and was a bit nervous to come back into that world. Studying with Sarah has made it a breeze. I have made huge improvements in regaining my technique and strengthening my vocal quality. I am achieving things I never thought I would.
