What’s the difference between Singing Lessons & Speech Therapy?

Singing voice training for trans and gender non-binary artists is intended to augment and complement speech therapy. Speech therapy with a trans-friendly Speech-Language Pathologist can help you develop awareness of habitual communication patterns and build a basic mental map of your voice in addition to helping you learn vocal intonation, word choices, and phrase structures that support your gender identity. Voice lessons will help you keep your singing voice healthy and strong as you work through these changes, while helping your new skills to become more natural and expressive.

Sarah is not just a voice technician. Helping trans and non-binary clients meet their voice goals is part of her life mission. You feel her caring in her warm studio. And her humor turns practice into play. Through voice lessons with Sarah I’ve applied and deepened what I learned from my original speech pathologist to form a natural, reliable feminine speaking (and singing) voice.

Vocal authenticity is important for every singer, but for transgender & non-binary folks, it’s crucial.

Our voices are such a huge part of our self-expression, and when that part of us feels silenced or incomplete, it can be devastating. That’s why I am committed to providing a safe and productive learning environment for transgender and non-binary singers.

Whether you’re working to strengthen a new part of your vocal range, stabilize your transitioning singing voice, or figure out what the heck your authentic voice sounds like anyway, I’m here for it!
